wet sanding between coats of base color is acceptable in small areas to remove dirt and buggy's that fly into it.but use 1000.-2000.grit wetordry, if your using a urethane b/c system you should avoud sanding very much between base and the clear for the base has some adhesion chemicals that come to the surface.
i like to wet the paper and have a papertowell soaked in water to help me out and don't sand very heavy 'cause the base is very thin
